Severin Unck is the daughter of a very famous film director in an alternate Hollywood in which talking movies are still a daring innovation. Rebelling against her father's fanciful romantic style of film-making, Severin starts making documentaries. She is a realist in a fantastic universe - documenting a solar system in which the planets are all inhabited and humans beings travel through space on beautiful rockets. Her latest project will investigate the unexplained disappearance of a diving colony on watery Venus. But this film will be her last: her crew limp will home to earth, but Severin herself will never return.
