While living in exile in Berlin, Viktor Shklovsky fell in love with Elsa Triolet. He wrote her several letter a day, but she asked him not to write about love. The result is this experimental epistolary novel, which focuses on a variety of topics, all - indirectly - dedicated to the author's love for Elsa.
