Katherine's and Juana were the accomplished daughters of Ferdinand and Isabella, the formidable king and queen who unified Spain. Katherine of Aragon was to be cast aside by Henry VIII for a strumpet. Juana of Castile was accused of lunacy and held captive by her family. Despite everything, the bonds between the sisters survived.
